CloudLinux OS – Overview
CloudLinux OS is a commercial Linux distribution (paid, subscription-based) designed specifically for web hosting providers, data centers, and enterprises that run shared hosting environments.
It is based on RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) / CentOS but adds powerful features for security, stability, and performance isolation in multi-tenant servers.
Why CloudLinux?
In shared hosting, multiple websites are hosted on the same server.
- If one website uses too many resources (CPU, RAM, I/O) → the entire server can slow down or crash.
- If one site gets hacked → other sites are at risk.
- CloudLinux solves this by isolating each tenant (user/account) into a lightweight, virtualized environment with its own resource limits.
Key Features of CloudLinux
- LVE (Lightweight Virtualized Environment)
- Isolates each user (like a mini VM inside the server).
- Sets resource limits: CPU, RAM, Disk I/O, Inodes, Entry Processes.
- Prevents one user from overloading the entire server.

- CageFS (Secure Virtualized File System)
- Each user sees only their own files and processes.
- Blocks users from viewing sensitive system files.
- Increases security in shared hosting.

- Imunify360 (Optional Add-On)
- Advanced malware protection, firewall, intrusion detection.
- Automated malware scanning and cleanup.

- PHP Selector & Ruby/Python Selector
- Users can choose their own PHP version (5.x → 8.x).
- Supports multiple versions of Python and Ruby.

- KernelCare (Optional Add-On)
- Live kernel patching without rebooting.
- Keeps servers secure with zero downtime.

- MySQL Governor
- Monitors and limits abusive MySQL queries.
- Prevents one account from hogging database resources.

- Resource Usage Monitoring
- Hosting providers can track usage and prevent abuse.
- Customers can see their own resource usage in cPanel/DirectAdmin.
